During my childhood days my father used to buy me games from any electronics shop. But then I was born in 20th century! Ask any kid of 21st century and he will tell you that his father buy him a new Playstation or Harry Potter books from Ebay or any such other internet shopping website. They don’t go to any local shop! Indeed, the world has changed a lot!

But then the question arises how this evolution in shopping happened? The answer is obviously internet, and along came the concept of e-commerce. Leave the complex explanations, E-commerce simply means Electronic Commerce. That means buying or selling of products/services over the internet and other computer networks.

Everything has a beginning and e-commerce started its humble beginning in banking and data management sector. The early examples are ATM and credit cards. As the time progressed every big retailer recognised the potential in internet based e-commerce. Websites like Ebay and Amazon started buying/selling products online. Other big retailers also launched their online shop beside their normal shops that exist.

The introduction of e-commerce changed the market sphere of any retailer. For example, now you can buy an Apple iPad directly from their online store though it’s not launched in India yet. Same way, an American citizen can buy a book by Sunil Gangopadhhay from an online book store in India even if it’s not available in USA. Not just this, using e-commerce helps you to gain many more customers from around the globe.

Lets discuss, why e-commerce is so popular and raising to a new high each day? As an online shopper I like some specific things in electronic shopping. First of all, no matter where you stay you can buy almost every customer goods you wish to. That somehow breaks the barrier of boundaries. Second is, you can buy a product from your home. That saves a lot of time. You don’t need to go to a shop and hustle to buy a new 3D game! Third is, you get the product delivered at your doorstep and that too with lots of discount! So, not just time savings but money savings too! Fourth is, it’s safe and secure. I am not saying that every website using the benefits of e commerce is secure but reputed sites definitely are.  Most important thing is you do not need to carry cash to a shop. Just use your credit card and your payment is done from your home.

E-Commerce is certainly the ideal business model of 21st century. We are always in a hurry and do not even have time to visit shops. E-commerce solves this major problem of the retailer. And now we are even seeing the modern version of e-commerce is being utilised in mobile phones. That makes it more personal. Now we shop from our mobile using ngpay and other such apps. If the world was global village, E-Commerce is transforming it into Global Home.
